Rochester's Philosophy

In Chapter 13, Rochester comments that, "Most things free-born will submit to anything for a salary" (137). Do you agree with his philosophy? Why or why not? Based on what you already know about Jane, do you think this will be true of her?

Point of View

As we discussed in class, Jane Eyre is written in the first person point of view. What are the benefits and downfalls of using first person point of view in the novel? Do you think this point of view is effective? Would you feel the same way if it were written in third person point of view?
